Notes: |
The red emission
nebula is known as IC 434. The Horsehead
nebula is Bernard 33 (B33) and is a dark nebula,
that is, dust in the foreground, blocking the red
emission nebula in the background. The blue halos
around the bright stars are reflections inside the telescope. The white near
the bottom center is a magnitude 2.0 star
just off the picture - it is easily visible
to the naked eye and would make a mess of the picture, so I put it off the edge.
This nebula is about 1,500 light
years away. |
